At long last this is the day we have been looking forward to for many months. We met for breakfast at 9:00 as I had arranged for a large van (taxi) to pick us up at the hotel at 11:00. The van they sent could hold 20 people so we had plenty of room. The 2 mile trip (about 15 minutes as there were no direct routes) cost us $55 in US money. Well, EVERYTHING is expensive in Norway!
We were among the first passengers to arrive at the ship. We dropped our checked luggage at a nice tent and they x-rayed every thing that to go on board the ship. Then we walked about 150 feet to the gate where three local security guys were checking our passports with the list of passengers to board today. Then up the gangway where the Regent security people x-rayed our carry-on and we passed through the metal detector. We were then immediately greeted with glasses of champagne and directed into the theater for check-in. They were not prepared to do that so had to wait about 30 minutes. Check-in was very fast. They informed us that our suites would not be available until 2:00 pm and were directed up to deck 11 for a buffet lunch or pool grill. The pool grill serves hamburger, hotdogs, chicken or fish sandwiches daily. They also had a taco bar set up today but we did not see it until after we had finished lunch in the La Veranda buffet. At 2pm they announced our suites were ready for us. When we arrived in it, our luggage was there waiting for us. We proceeded to begin the unpacking process which takes awhile when you bring as much "stuff" as Rebecca does. Ok, I had quite a lot myself! Unfortunately, I discovered that I had forgotten to pack my tuxedo shirt. Seems I always forget some part of my tux. At 3:15 we had our lifeboat drill which lasted 30 minutes. It was very thorough. We sailed at 4:00 and are enjoying beautiful scenery as we sail out of the fjord. The ship's shops opened after sailing so we went down to see if they had any tux shirts. No luck! I went to the reception desk and asked if they would contact the tailor to see if I could borrow one of the crew's shirts. The head waiters wear tuxes every evening. So we will see if the can come up with something. Formal night is tomorrow night!! We are done unpacking and getting ready to meet the girls at 6:30 in the Horizon Lounge for pre-dinner cocktails. I better get ready.
