MAGDELENE FJORD WITH GLACIER

                                                   Our position for the morning.

This fjord is located on the west coast of Spitsbergen, the largest island in the Svalbard chain of islands.  It is 5 miles long and 3 miles wide making it wide enough to accommodate even the largest of cruise ships. The fjord is located at 79 degrees north latitude and the north pole is at 90N so this means we are 11 degrees from the north pole.  Each degree is 60 nautical miles so we are 660 nm from it or just over 700 of our statute miles.
We spent 3 hours in the fjord this morning.  There were a couple glaciers that we got fairly close to but had to stay a safe distance.  I took around 60 photos from various places on the ship.  We had very nice views from our suite balcony too.  Sorry to bore you with all those photos, many similar, but I know some will enjoy seeing all of them.
As we were leaving the fjord the four of us went down to the dining room for a Sunday champagne breakfast with caviar.  The view from our table was incredible as we toasted the wonderful weather again today and awesome sights we were blessed with this morning.  It's now 11:00 am and back in our suite.  I have downloaded the photos taken this morning and am waiting for the internet to come back up so I can put them on the web.  We had internet reception early this morning and I put some postings on FaceBook but none so far after leaving the fjord.
Back from working out and all cleaned up now.  Internet is back up and I am waiting for a lunch salad from room service while I do this.  The girls went up to La Veranda for a bite to eat.  We have been sailing down the coast of the island of Spitzbergen for the past almost 3 hours about 15 miles off shore.  It is so beautiful looking as huge snow fields and some glaciers in every valley.  I know I have seen over 50.  The tops of the mountains are obscured by an overcast cloud layer between us and land.  The sun is shining on the snow however and no photo can capture that incredible sight.  Here are the photos I took this morning in the Magdalene Fjord.  I know there are many that look the same so bear with me.  Not much narrative so click on the photo and enlarge them for the full effect!!

Rebecca seems to be doing much better as worked out yesterday on treadmill for the first time and is heading to gym again today.  We will be at sea the rest of today and all day tomorrow while heading to our next port, Harstad, Norway.  The production show last night was great.  Tonight our cruise director, JR, will be performing, "Classics from the American Songbook".  He is a very talented singer.  Prior to that cocktails and dinner in Compass Rose restaurant for us.  Tomorrow is a special day for someone I know???
