Our position at noon today is half way between our last port of Hammerfest and next port of Longyearbyen. You may notice that at top of photo is our latitude which is 74 degrees North Latitude. This is well above the Arctic Circle (approx 66 degrees north).
Visibility out here in the Arctic Ocean today is maybe 200 yards with fog but the ocean is providing us with a smooth ride. Maybe the fog will burn off later today. The ship's speed today is only 12 kts (normal cruise speed is around 18 kts). Temperature is 42 degrees F. When planning this cruise I was worried about the ocean being very rough up here but so far it has been nice and smooth. When I was still working and flying B-777's across the North Atlantic to and from Europe, I could look down and see how rough it was in Atlantic. I did not want to experience cruising in those rough seas.
I want to wish my high school classmate, Sandra Powell Kraft, and very happy birthday today. I know she likes to follow my blogs.
The pool grill was featuring chili today. Due to cooler weather this was quite appropriate. They had 4 different chili's to pick from so I tried all four. I guess I will watch a movie on our tv this afternoon. There are many movies to select from and even the latest releases are available for no charge. This evening at 6:00 pm there is a cocktail party for all past Regent guests. After it the four of us will be dining with Allison & Joe Trum. We met them on our Circle South America cruise in 2012 and they were also on our Beijing to London cruise last year. They are from Galveston, TX. Following dinner we will again head to the theater. Tonight's show is featuring singer/songwriter/guitarist/comedian, John Charles.
