Our position at noon today--Sunday, July 13th
It is a balmy 60F here in the Norwegian Sea today at noon and the sea is not that rough. You can hardly tell we're at sea. "Knock on wood" I hope this continues! At about 3:00 pm we will be crossing the Arctic Circle which is approximately 66 degrees north latitude. The exact position of the Cirlce depends on the Earth's axial tilt. The Captain will hold a ceremony on pool deck this afternoon that is called, "The Order of the Blue Nose: Arctic Circle Crossing Rite". It is for first time crossers of the Arctic Circle. We did a similar ceremony the first time we crossed the Equator. Relatively few people live north of the Arctic Circle due to the severe climate. We will be visiting the largest of the three larger cities, Murmansk, Russia, on Wednesday.
Our dinner last night in Prime 7 was wonderful. My big rib eye steak was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic. The girls had surf and turf (small filet with lobster). This morning I was still full from last night so skipped the caviar and champagne breakfast which is a normal Sunday event on Regent. The girls went and I headed up to the gym for my hour workout.
After lunch we went to the theater for our cruise director's "An Afternoon on Broadway" show. JR Lustig is a very talented singer and he performed several broadway show tunes. The ship's band is from the Ukraine and they are fantastic. We will be leaving shortly to go up on pool deck for the Arctic Circle crossing ceremony. Got to get our coats out for that!
The chef is preparing veal parmesan tonight for the four of us. I took my computer down at noon and showed him a picture of what it should look like. I have a picture of some chicken parm I made at home in my computer just for this purpose. Tonight they will be showing the World Cup finals game on the big screen in the theater. Probably will skip that but pulling for Argentina instead of Germany.
I am putting some photos on today's posting from a previous evening and from our formal evening. My son wants to see photos of the interior of the ship so may get those on blog tomorrow.
Departing Kristiansand
Taken outside the Horizon Lounge on back of ship.
Our entertaining waiter this evening, Hendra.
My chocolate tart with choc ice cream for dessert
Gami, (not a good photo of him) the restaurant manager
Formal night dinner
Rini, our wine steward
Cuff links given to me by our friends, Bobby & Judi Arvon, a few years ago.
Lobster tail
Bar waiter, Vijay
Captain Daniel Green conducting the crossing ceremony
They put a dab of blueberry yogurt on the first time crossers noses. We passed on it.
