July 7th finally came and we are heading to Oslo. Our travel agent, John Kreiger, at Cruise Tour Center in Dallas sent two limos to take the four of us and our 12 pieces of luggage to DFW.
Our drivers arrived on schedule at 12:30 and off we went for DFW. We are flying Lufthansa Airlines from DFW to Frankfort, Germany, at 3:55pm. Check-in at the ticket counter went smoothly and there was no line at security so next thing we knew we were in the Lufthansa business class airport lounge awaiting boarding time.
We managed to have some wine here to start the celebration of this long awaited journey. While waiting our plane, an Airbus 330-300, landed and taxied in to the gate.
At 3:15 we boarded our home for the flight across the North Atlantic. Our seats were in the first row of business class right behind the first class curtain. They were perfect seats and NO KIDS anywhere in sight!
After getting our carry-on luggage safely stowed, our flight attendants brought champagne.
They pushed off the gate 5 minutes early and we taxied over to the east side runways for our departure. Flight time today was planned to be 9 hours and 15 minutes. We experienced some light chop on our climb out do to some towering cumulus clouds around DFW. It smoothed out nicely after about 10 minutes and our flight attendants began their service. After serving drinks and cashews, we had a shrimp appetizer, salad, and filet for dinner accompanied by wines. For dessert I had ice cream, and of course Rebecca passed. I was not that impressed with the quality and taste of Lufthansa's food. Their service was excellent however. As we passed over the Chicago area we again experienced more chop and this time the Captain asked the flight attendants to be seated for their safety. It was beddy bye time for me so Rebecca and I took a half of an Ambien to help knock us out. Not sure how long we slept but breakfast was served about an hour and half before we were to land. Once again food was so-so.
Frankfort weather was crummy! That's an aviation term us retired airline pilots use now. Low, ragged ceiling with drizzle and low visibility. Perfect weather for our Lufthansa captain. We parked away from the terminal so had to take a bus in to terminal. We were not given any information by crew so kind of had to "wing" it. Unlike the man I am, I went to ask someone for help. We were pointed to "passport control" and then took long walk to our departure terminal. Unfortunately, we had to go through security once again. Our luggage had been checked through to Oslo so at least we did not have to bother with it. I just hope it arrives there when we do!!
We are now sitting in the Lufthansa business class lounge waiting for our 12:25 flight on Scandinavian Airlines to Oslo. We landed here in Frankfort at 8:30. They are 7 hours ahead of Dallas time here. We are scheduled to land in Oslo at 2:00pm. Ok, heading down to our departure gate now. See you in Oslo.
